Leadership Skills Training for Consultants: Two Skills You Refuse to Acquire
Today I’m going to reveal two things that are mandatory to the growth of your consulting business. These two things are incredibly important, and it’s crippling your business because you don’t have them.
What I believe. I believe accountability and discipline are the two things you need, but will not pursue…unless forced.
Why I believe it. Discipline is defined as a commitment to a specific conduct or pattern of behavior. Discipline says “I follow the same process every time.” Accountability is defined as the willingness to accept responsibility. Accountability says “I will take responsibility for whatever my process puts out.” You need these two things together. Why? Because no matter the quality of your ideas or the level of your expertise, you can’t build a great business without both accountability and discipline.
Remember you are the leader of your business and your business behaves as you do. If you have a fear about discipline or accountability, your business will also. Your leadership focus is to give consistency and excellence to your business. You have to know your business will do the same thing, the same way, each time. Your clients have to know your business will do the same thing, the same way, each time. Your clients need to know what to expect from your business, but if you are afraid to be disciplined and accountable, it affects the quality of what your clients receive.
